Hearing 18 / 聴覚 18: Thich Nhat Hanh

Oops.  Is this late?  🙂

Well, ladies and gentlemen, I’ve been so busy with working everyday, trying to help out at home, job searching in Japan and trying to keep up some resemblance of a social life (!), so my blog has suffered a bit!  Because of this, I’m going to take a week off and perhaps change the format of the blog (not once a day?  have friends write on it?).  Well, we’ll see what happens.

But until then, I’ll leave you with a very long (one hour) ‘hearing’.  I definitely recommend you listen to the whole audio even if you stretch it over the week.

Here’s the back-story to why I’m posting this ‘hearing’.  Back in my Boston days I started to get interested in Buddhism.  At that time I attended an amazing Dharma group, the FWBO.  At that time I learned some meditation techniques including, loving kindness, mindfulness, and others.  We also looked at some texts and analyzed them to better understand ourselves.  Having not grown up religious at all, I loved how the study of these techniques was about making yourself a better person (I believe what all religions are based on but unfortunately have not carried out through the ages in my eyes).

So, since that experience in Boston I’ve always kept an eye and ear on Buddhist theologies trying to incorporate them into my life.  Inevitably during this time I learned of the Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh.  Truly there is no other person that reflects peace as this teacher does.  To learn more about him visit his website here.

The audio I’ve included here is called, “Brother Thay, A Radio Pilgrimage with Thich Nhat Hanh.”  It touches on subjects such as “engaged buddhism”, “being peace” and “mindfulness.”  Although there are a lot of other interesting people in the podcast, listening to Thich Nhat Hanh is like listening to someone who just gets it. Just completely understands how to live.  I truly could listen to him all day.

The podcast was taken from Speaking of Faith.
