Hearing 11: Jazz Appreciation Month – 聴覚 11:ジャズ鑑賞の月

Along with a plethora of other reputable and important causes,
April is Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM).

April is Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM)

Since interning at the Smithsonian and learning about JAM in 2002 (its inaugural year), I have made it a point to make sure every year, during the month of April, I either buy a jazz CD and/or go out to live jazz (even in this economy!).

I also make it a point to get the annual poster (seen above) which I can proudly -and nerdily– say I have all, which are patiently waiting for me to buy that big house with the long hallway from which they will be hung.  But I digress.

My point is I hope everyone out there will support music and the musicians that make it.  Instead of illegally downloading music you like from some sketchy site take time to think about what the real cost of your actions are.  I’m pretty broke so if I can do it, you can do it.

In honor of JAM this year I bought a CD recommended by a fellow jazz-loving friend.  He gave me a list of albums when I asked him for some recommendations and I, being the vibe-loving jazz fan that I am,  purchased the Gary Burton album, For Hamp, Red, Bags, and Cal.

So, this month think about getting out there and buying a jazz album.

Do it, do it now. 🙂
