Taste 8: Garbanzo Beans – 味覚 8:ヒヨコマメ

As I get older I realize that finding alternatives to your “guilty pleasures” is an essential practice for living a healthier, longer life especially when talking about food. So for me, finding something that could replace my occasional binge of hot cheetos, was a necessary starting point. I’m not quite sure where I inherited this “recipe” (perhaps from my sister?) but they are super easy and yummy!

———

What you need:
A can of garbanzo beans (as known as chickpeas)
Olive oil
Salt
A sieve
A dark roasting pan
An oven

What you do:
Pre-heat oven at 450 F.
Drain the garbanzo beans in the sieve and rinse.
Pat dry with a paper towel.
Put the beans in the roasting pan in a single layer.
Drizzle with olive oil (make sure you don’t drench them! – like I have done).
Cook for 30-40 minutes (make sure you don’t burn them – like I have done).
Salt to taste

Viola.  Such a delicious snack.

———

Although it’s a fairly healthy snack,  it’s recommended that you eat them with a friend as it’s just as easy to eat a whole can by yourself as it is to eat a whole bag of cheetos. : )
